Makeover Your Nails With Leighton Denny

Give your hands and feet a spring make over with Leighton Denny

The New 'Wander Lust' Collection by Leighton Denny

If you know me well you'll know I love nails. I love painting my own nails and one of my favorite treatments that I offer at my salon is manicures and pedicures. There is nothing better than seeing new colours arrive, I suddenly act like I'm 5 again testing all the colours and wanting to paint each nail a different shade to show them off. I know it's also not just me as my clients are equally as excited when I flash new nail sticks in front of them and it takes forever to choose a new nail colour.

Its now that time of the year when manicures and pedicures are the main salon treatment with everyone wanting to be holiday ready and summer sandal ready.

If you're not keen on visiting a salon and prefer an at home mani and pedi then I have the perfect steps to create summer ready fingers and toes.

At Home Manicure

1: Prep. Great hands start with great skin and the new Leighton Denny Rejuvenate Hand Mask is a good place to start. Carefully remove the moisturising gloves from the packet and apply to each hand; be sure to seal the stickers to keep them in place and relax for 20-30 minutes before removing and massaging in excess serum.

2: Cuticles. Now your hands are soft and moisturised your cuticles will be easy to tease back gently with a orange wood stick or cuticle stick. Do not push too hard, just gently work back to create a nice neat edge.
3: Nail shaping. On the natural nails I would only ever recommend a glass nail file, The Leighton Denny crystal glass file has earned 15 awards and turns the free edge of the nails to dust which stops the nails drying out and becoming brittle. To maintain healthy nails shape regularly to avoid any splits forming and keep the free edge strong.

4: Painting. Before nail painting remove excess oils from the nail plate with some varnish remover, acetone free is ideal as this will stop the nail plate from drying out.
Always start with a base coat. Base coats not only prevent colour from staining the natural nails but allow a nice strong base for your polish to grip and provide a harder wearing surface.

5: Colour.  Apply two coats of your favourite colour, yes two, often I hear my client say that their 1 coat of colour chipped within a day and that's why. When applying your colour swipe along the free edge on every layer, this will cap the free edge and helps stops chipping.

6: Top coat. Top coat is just as important as a base, it will seal the colour and provide a glossy finish, don't forget to cap that free edge on this layer too.

Always allow plenty of time for your nails to dry, a blast of Leighton Denny Miracle Mist will help speed up the drying process.

Perfect Pedicure

1: Foot Soak. This can be done in the bath, allow your feet to soak in warm soapy water, if you have time then dust off your foot spa and get soaking. Foot soaking is great to soften any hard build up of skin allowing for easy removal.

2: Foot File. Using a foot file gently work over areas of hard skin, be careful not to over file on sensitive areas.

3: Soften.  Sole Rescue is a great balm for the feet to help soften over areas of hard skin and deeply moisturise your feet.

4: Cuticles and Shape. Gently work back the cuticles and file the nails is a straight motion. Toe nails are better shaped square to avoid in-grown nails and leaves a neat finish.

5: Polish. Clean the nails to remove any oils. Apply a layer of base coat, two coats of your favourite colour and finish with a layer of glossy top coat. To avoid nails touching you can use toe dividers or a twisted piece of tissue.

Like finger nails allow plenty of drying time, I recommend leaving toe dividers in until the nails are dry to avoid any toes rubbing at your fresh polish. Quick dry spray can be use at this stage to speed up drying time.

Do you like to treat your nails at home or in a salon?

Zara Have Nailed The Suits This Season

I am all over the Zara suits this season; casual, tailored and power they have them all, they are not afraid of colour and everyone should have a suit in their wardrobe this season.

The right suit can be so versatile, team with court
shoes and a shirt for the office, trainers and t shirt for causal vibes and switch to a silky camisole and killer strappy heels for night time glam.

I have picked my top 5 Zara suits of the season.

Double Breasted Straight Leg

The double breasted suit £130

My Top 5 Zara Suits

The Under £50 Suit

This is an absolute bargain and comes in 2 colours. Both these pieces can be styled beautifully through spring and summer and the softer mint colour will compliment most skin tones.

The Neutral Suit £110

This is perfect for those who prefer a more neutral wardrobe. This will work for the office, day and night.

The understated statement suit £76

This suit is stunning but not over stated. The soft gingham fabric tones down the pink so this is perfect for those who are prefer their colour to be overtaking.

The Tux Suit £100

This really is a beautiful sexy style suit. Team with a lace bra and killer heels and your good to go. The blazer would also work over dresses for the evening too.

What is your favorite suit?

How To Get Perfectly Cleansed Skin

Get your skin twice as clean with double cleansing and Dermalogica

You may have heard the term thrown around "Double cleansing' and maybe thought what a waste of product but there is more to double cleansing that juts a sales gimmick.
Double cleansing has been around for years, I remember the days at college trying to remember the 10 step second cleanse routine and failing an assessment because I got some moves in a muddle, I was devastated, the tutor would check our double cleansing by doing the cotton wool test to see if we had left traces of make-up. My failed assessment aside what really is double cleansing and what does it involve?

Double cleansing is a process where two different cleansers are used on the skin, the first cleanser is typically an oil cleanser, this is used in circular motions to remove your make-up, dirt and sebum (your skins natural oil) from your skin, once rinsed off a second cleanse takes place with a cleanser suitable to your skin type to really work for your skin helping to treat concerns.
Double cleansing daily is a great way to keep your skin in top condition and Dermalogica has just the products.

First Cleanse

Dermalogica Precleanse is the prefect start to a double cleansing routine. Simply take a few pumps of this gorgeous oil into your palms and massage in circular motions over your skin, it will not only remove make-up and oils but waterproof make-up too so if you are a lover of the liquid lipsticks then this is a product you can't live without. Once you have massaged into your skin and you can then add water to transform the precleanse into a milky consistency and simply rinse away. Your skin is left super soft will all traces of make-up and oil build up removed. This gently formular is perfect for all skin types including oils skin.

Second Cleanse

Now your skin is clean from dirt build up, make-up and excess oils it's onto the second cleanse, the cleansing stage that can really get to work deep and treat the skin.
Dermalogica offers 7 different cleansers to follow on from your precleanse so there really is a cleanser to suit everyone. All of the Dermalogica cleansers are soap free and PH balanced so will protect the skins natural moisture barrier.

Clearing skin wash: Brightening and helps reduce visible skin ageing

Breakout clearing foam wash: Tough on breakout yet gentle on your skin

Ultra calming cleanser: Perfect for sensitive and delicate skins

Special cleansing gel: A good allrounder, removes impurities without stripping, refreshing on the skin

Skin resurfacing cleanser: An exfoliating cleanser to re-texturise ageing skin

Dermal clay cleanser: Helps to purify oily skins and remove excess oil without drying the skin

Essential Cleansing Solution: A rich creamy cleanser for dry skin

When applying your cleanser for your second cleanse work with massage movements well into the skin not forgetting the neck area. Spend a few moments working the product into the skin to allow the specially selected ingredients to do their job. Once you have cleansed all over your face and neck remove with water and follow with a spritz of toner such as Multi active toner and a layer of Skin Smoothing cream and your are good to go.

Real Resolutions

So it's that time of year again when it's all new year new beginnings.
It's a fresh start to wipe out the old and start on a clean slate, that time of year when we feel anything is possible and the world is our oyster.
Can a new year really make us change and the whole world brighter?

Every year I have a few resolutions in my head but never fully follow through on them, they're my pipe dreams, my dreams that I see from other people, what they have and me thinking that's what I want but I very rarely put any effort into achieving,  well this year though, I'm making then for me.

So here are my real resolutions

Be more thankful and don't compare

I have to say I'm terrible for comparing; comparing other peoples fabulous lives to mine that seems so boring in comparison. Most nights i'm in, sitting in my PJ's with my other half and cats, we're not eating out every other night, not attending fabulous parties and not on constant trips to far away places but does that make my life dull? Instead of being jealous of a snap shot on a screen of someones life I need to tell myself what I have, I have a lovely home, it's small but lovely. I have been with my partner for nearly 10 years and after spending the first 2 trying to get him to stay in and not go out every night I've finally gotten just that, we're happy to just be together in our little place and that is actually a great thing.
I am thankful to be able to travel at all, I know so many are not in that position, I had some lovely little trips last year, some local but still a lovely time away from the norm. I also must remember that somewhere someone may be comparing their life to mine, it seems hard to believe but someone may actually think I have the perfect life when they look on Instagram, it's not perfect, but i'm thankful for it.

Be more present with loved ones

I like to think I'm a family person, I love my family but sometimes work gets in the way and I don't actually see then as much as I should. Time is precious and leading to Christmas I heard of so many sudden losses that it really hits home how much I need to be here in the now for my family; over Christmas I visited family more as you do and it was lovely, my nan would love me to pop in after work just for a coffee so I will do this more.

Be more careful with spending

This one I know I can do, I am so wasteful with small spending. If I add up the daily trips to the coffee shops I can save at least  £20+ a week, shocking I know, my daily routine is stopping by a coffee shop on my way to work and at £3 + per visit it adds up.
For Christmas I got a coffee pot so I'm taking my old one to my work place and will enjoy fresh coffee at a fraction of the price.
It's not just coffee though, it's the little trips to my local shop every other night on my way home to get things for tea that add up too,
I must get over that fact that weekly shopping trips to the supermarket may be boring but it saves in the long run, I have just downloaded an app to help track what I spend, if you're looking to do the same I'm using  'Spending Tracker'  It's an eye opener after just a few days.

Get that gym body....

So this is the unrealistic one, as much as I look up to those girls with amazing abs and round peaches it will never be me, it could be but I'm laughing typing this as I know full well I will never be that disciplined to achieve anything like that, I love sweet treats too much and my motto for 'you only live once eat it' is strong but I will take better care of myself, I will drink more water,  moisturies my body, not just my face and eat less cheese.
I do use the gym but I must take my time in the gym more seriously, a good 30 minute heart pumping workout is far better than an hour of mid rage exercises.

Have you made any resolutions? I would love to hear if you have ever stuck by previous ones, i'll update you on the cheese part.

Happy New years!
