How I Curl My Hair

After years of failure I can now curl my hair how I like it

I have always seen celebrity's with lovely wavy hair that is shorter in length and I've never really figured out how to get mine to look like that, I was after the smooth sleek waves and ended up with a big bush on my head.
That was until I finally asked a hairdresser, my sister Charlene and asked what I was doing wrong and now I have it, the secret is to not curl right to the end!
Apparently I wasn't alone in knowing how to curl bob length hair as several clients were asking too so here is my video on how I curl my hair.

Primark £1 False Eyelashes

Affordable False Lashes

I'm usually an eyelash extension person but I'm also a picker and the two don't mix well so thankfully Primark have false eyelashes for £1

I love a good false lash, the right style can lift and open an eye as well as adding instant glamour. I have bought loads over the years and if you carefully remove the glue you can wear several times. I like to wrap mine around my cleanser tube between wears as it holds the curve shape though keep out of reach of cats as mine like to eat them at any opportunity.

My usual lashes cost £5 a pair so these are a good saving.

There are several styles within the £1 lash range

My personal favourites

Full look and define. 'Full look' for day as resembles lash extensions and 'Define' for evening as slightly more dramatic and spiky.

Dramatic: Very thick and full will give a heavy look. Not ideal for lash virgins or small eyes.

Intense: Clear band gives a more natural bond so no need for thick liner. Soft natural lashes.

Sultry: A natural but fluffy finish, good for day wear.

Natural: Good for day wear, more defined lashes than Sultry.

Volume: Full lash look, long and ideal for evening.

Staying Power

You have a glue included within each pack and I used with the first wear on a night out. The glue is actually not bad, it takes a while to set the lash in place so can slid a bit when trying to apply. I like the applicator as if you get a part lift it is easy to just add a tiny bit more to the lash line. For maximum hold with lashes I really don't think you can beat 'Duo' glue. Duo glue is also sold in Primark and comes in a squeeze tube so I usually apply a small blob to the plastic lash packaging and holding the lash between tweezers run the lash through the glue. I find with the Duo glue there is no risk of the lashes lifting at all and it sets fast so you don't have to keep pressing the lash in place.

Would I Buy Again?

Absolutely,  I've stocked up for Christmas already in my two favourite styles.

My outfit of the day

Strolling to work on a gloomy day I noticed a beautiful pink jumper in New Looks window. It was not only pink but had white pearl style beads dotted about too; on my way home from work I found myself at the till waiting to pay and I'm so glad I did.

Silk Blouses and Shoulder Pads

Take me back to the 80's with this patterned blouse complete with shoulder pads!

A silk blouse is the ultimate wardrobe staple for sophisticated style; a vibrant coloured silk blouse with shoulder pads may scream more Pat Butcher than Victoria Beckham (For those born post 80's/90's just Google and laugh) but they really have come back in style thanks to Zara.

Zara have an array of these blouses in at the moment and the best part being that they are actually body suits,  no more trying to keep them neatly tucked in all day with one stray edge working its way loose flapping around all creased. Snap fastening at the bottom makes it easier to use the ladies too, no more stripping naked.. or pulling far enough to the side.. don't pretend you haven't done that.

This beautiful Zara blouse is just £29.99 and will see you through day and night and is perfect for upcoming parties.

I used a broach to stop from showing too much clevage during the day.

New blog name

Why the name change?

Some of you may have noticed the name change from 'Charlene and Leanne' to

When the blog was first started it was with myself and my twin sister Charlene, we used to meet up to create content but due to different work schedules it was getting increasingly harder to do this so I have been taking over the postings for the last few months now. Charlene will still feature on her and on videos for YouTube so you will see her around.

I chose the name 'Styled with Lipstick' as it represents me. I love fashion and styling and I'm always finished with lipstick, lipstick of the red variety. (Charlene is more of a nude twin.. lipstick nude that is)

Thank you for following me thus far and I hope you continue to follow me through my blogging journey.

Aldi Luxury Candles

At this time of year when the nights have drawn in and you are starting to feel more of a chill than you like there is nothing better than hibernating at home.
Warm baths and snuggling on the sofa in your favorite pyjamas, hot chocolate in hand, box sets at the ready and a candle burning is obligatory.

I have over the years I feel tested every candle there is. I  have a candle in every room of my house and in some places groups of candles in different sizes; to my horror earlier this year I found out that allowing blown out candle soot to just rise in the air will leave lovely white walls with a grey tinge and wiping it off causes more problems! (The living room and bedroom needed re-painting)

You would have thought the above would have stopped my candle obsession but I have now found some obvious solutions; place a candle lid over the top to stub out flames and leave your white walls in tack, also keep wick trimmed so you don't have such a flame to cause rising soot, you'll thank me later.

Now you would have already seen the 'look a like' candles and diffusers in Aldi and if you haven't, where have you been?
I was introduced to these after a client brought me the Pomegranate candle into work one day. It smelt absolute amazing, it is by far my favourite smell, it's warming and heavy with a hint of fruit.
The candles are large with 2 wicks and a silver lid and priced at £3.99 wont break the bank. The design is simple and stylish. The reed diffuser's are also £3.99 and both come in the same scents; Numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4.

No 1: Lime, Basil and Mandarin
No 2: Blackberry and Bay
No 3: Pomegranate
No 4: English Freesia and Pear

Quality

Now the price may be very low in comparison to its high end version but don't be fooled on the smell.
The smell is strong but not overpowering and lasts for the full burn time. Once you have lit your candle if you allow it to burn until the top layer becomes completely melted you will be able to burn your candle completely down to the bottom of the jar.
The reed diffusers are also strong smelling, I turn the sticks every few days to keep my living area smelling of No 1 (I have two in my living area)

Stylish Storage

Along with candles I can never have too much storage, It helps me keep everything in order. These candles once burnt out make great storage containers too.
To clean for storage use I filled with boiling water and allowed to cool. Once cooler but not cold I then used an old spoon to lift out the wax that has set on the surface of the water and placed in a bin. I then wash the jar inside to to remove residue and polish clean.

An empty jar makes great brush storage... mine are a little dirty.

Another jar keeps my jewellery safe from the cats

My Latest Fashion: October buys

Good evening! that is if you are reading at the time of posting.
I have filmed for you my fashion purchases from October; there is not a massive amount as some pieces were from the end of sale sections and you can no longer buy so I didn't feature those as what is the point if you can't buy them.

I have been trying to stay clear of the typical winter black colours though I failed with a few items I feel I done better than previous years. I was surprised this month as I never really venture into Newlook much but they really do have some lovely pieces in there at the moment so I will be heading there I'm sure over the next month or so.

What have you been buying this past month?

Post your links below so I can take a look.

Floral Dresses

It may be Autumn but the floral dress is a go to style item

When you think of floral dresses you may think sunshine and summer holidays but when shopping the high street you would have noticed they are not hiding away just yet and there is nothing more perfect than a floral dress styled for Autumn.

My Style

I've styled my cold shoulder Topshop dress with a plain T for added warmth; peep toe Karen Millen ankle boots and a gorgeous padded Primark biker jacket will keep any cold at bay.

Here I styled my floral dress with ankle boots and added a fitted T shirt underneath for body warmth. Try adding fishnet tights over flesh tone ones for warmer legs with an edgy twist or over the knee boots peeping through a high split will add a fun sexy element.

Top 5 floral dresses this Autumn

1. Team this beautiful dress with red boots of the season. Topshop

2. Pair this New Look split dress with over the knee boots

3. Layer with a chunky cardigan and belt. ASOS

4. This beautiful layered fabric would be a great contrast to a leather jacket and ankle boots, add studded boots for an edgy look. Warehouse

5. The perfect slip dress, add a long sleeved T shirt with thick tights and boots and you're set to go. Topshop

#BestBeautyNorwich

Guinot may be a name in the skincare world that you may not be familiar with but it's at the forefront for being one of the best facial treatments since 1972.

Guinot treatments were first offered in a VIP treatment room at the Hotel George V in Pairs by Jean Daniel Mondin; Guinot's Chairman and CEO.  What started as word of mouth has propelled the Hydradermie treatment into 11 thousand salons worldwide.

I first experienced a Hydradermie facial 15 years ago whilst working within my first beauty job and the basic principles of the treatment remain unchanged which is why I love the brand so much; why change perfection?

So what exactly is a Guinot Hydradermie?

A Hydradermie facial is what we typically call an 'electrical facial' but don't that let it put you off. The treatment is extremely relaxing and pain free. Unlike traditional hands on facials which work on surface skin the Hydradermie uses mild galvanic currents to increase the penetration of both firming and moisturising products into the skin and also high frequency to stimulate circulation and oxygen within the skin. The mixture of currents allows the machine to create long lasting results deeper than the skins surface and is also perfect for all skin types as specific products are used in different ares to target concerns.

Sun preparation and repair
Moisturising
Anti-aging
Purifying
Brightening
Nourishing
Anti-wrinkle

Once you have experienced a Hydradermie facial and seen the results you will be hooked, an Hydradermie facial can be stand along to give the skin a boost or part of your normal beauty routine to correct any skin concerns. I love the Guinot treatment to aid in brightening my complexion while helping to keep blemishes at bay.

Alongside the classic Hydradermie is the 'Lift' facial to stimulate muscles, minimise the appearance of wrinkles and smooth the skin. The lift treatment is preformed as part of a course for maximum results then just monthly maintenance can be preformed.

Back in Norwich

Beautiful view of Norwich

Guinot has been hard to find in Norwich over the years as only trained therapists are allowed to have access to the brand which is important to keep standards high and thankfully Sophie at 'Best Beauty Norwich' is a Guinot expert.

At 'Best Beauty Norwich' you will find the latest Guniot facial machine allowing Sophie to offer the classic Hydradermie, Hydradermie lift and the Deluxe Hydradermie.
On offer is also the full Guinot retail allowing you to continue with the exceptional results at home.
My favourite product is the BIOXYGENE moisturiser to help with radiance and protect from environmental factors and once you have tried Gommage Biologique you will not go back to any other exfoliant.

At Best Beauty Sophie not only offers Guinot treatments but relaxing massage, waxing and manicures in a modern and relaxing setting.
Best Beauty is situated as part of the Maids Head Hotel in Norwich and benefits from having on site parking so you can avoid the busy streets of Norwich.

Maybelline Tattoo Brow

A peel off brow tint? Can it really be that good?

So we have all by now I'm sure seen the peel off brow tint by Maybelline.
I will be honest my first thought took me back 16 years when I decided to get my untrained twin sister Charlene to tint my brows which resulted in my mum using nail varnish remover and a scrubbing motion for a good 5 minutes to try and remove the two slugs I was left with (I do not and never recommend using nail varnish on the face). Obviously now I'm trained I am able to easily tint my brows myself so why would I want to go to a peel off gel; surly it's the same thing?

Brow Tinting vs Maybelline tattoo brow

You may be thinking the above is one in the same but they are in fact very different. An eyebrow tint is a chemical process preformed by a beauty therapist where your brow hairs are dyed typically darker (though bleach can be used to lighten) The skin underneath the brows can become slightly tinted which wears off after a day or so but your brow hair remains tinted until the hair cycle replaces them with your natural colour brow hairs. As this treatment is a chemical process a patch test needs to be preformed to establish if you have any sensitivity to the product and to avoid any nasty reactions.
The Maybelline tattoo brow is very different; your natural hairs will remain the same colour after using this product but works on staining the skin under your brows for up to 3 days so you can finally ditch the brow pencils/pomades.

Tattoo Brow

So how easy is the tattoo brow to use? the advert looks simple enough, paint on and peel off.
I have tested and have some tips for you.

  • Clean your brows free from any make-up for an even finish
  • Paint the gel directly over your brows, you need a relatively thick layer to allow for easy peeling
  • Have a wipe handy; as this product stains the skin you need to work neatly as where ever the gel hits a nice stain will be there for the 3 days.
  • Leave for at least 20 minutes. On my second use I got a bit impatient and found only parts peeled off and I was in a sticky mess. Leave on for up to 2 hours for a 3 day wear.
  • Don't fake tan on the same day as first using this product. As the product stains your skin applying fake tan over the area will cause the tint colour to show up more orange in appearance, this is the same for brow tinting, trust me I'm speaking from experience!
  • Avoid using harsh products or over wiping the brow area to avoid fading the tint too soon

Results

Well I have to say I truly believe this is a brow revelation. I was expecting this product to leave a harsh tint effect but supprisingly the effect is not only even but also soft in apperance on the skin. I used the medium brown but also avaliable is medium blonde and dark brown.
